Feel The Flair
Joretta is both a townie and a country girl from a small town in good ol’ South Carolina where nothing exciting happens. She grew up experiencing various forms of homelessness which meant having to “grow up” when she was still a kid or to romanticize it commonly, she was “wise beyond her years.” Because of that, Joretta writes YA coming-of-age and romance stories that are Black-girl-centric for teens and twenty-somethings as her way to challenge adultification and reclaim the girlhood she’s never fully had. The stories focus on starting over, taking back what was lost, and being seen.
Joretta defies the status quo in her writing choosing to question everything and subtly advocate for things important to her with written flair. Her dream is to create projects for television that are pop culture-relevant yet timeless.
