Feel The Flair
Joretta is both a townie and a country girl from a small town in good ol’ South Carolina where nothing exciting happens. She grew up experiencing various forms of homelessness which meant having to “grow up” when she was still a kid or to romanticize it commonly, she was “wise beyond her years.” Because of that, Joretta primarily writes Black-girl-centric coming-of-age and romance stories as her way to challenge adultification and reclaim the girlhood she’s never fully had. The stories focus on starting over, taking back what was lost, and being seen.
Joretta has a keen eye for what’s missing on a page and shines at idea generation and written communication. Through writing, she developed knowledge of pop culture, relatability, and the art of the swoon – three things that attract people to her work regardless of genre or medium.
Joretta defies the status quo in her writing choosing to question everything, to take chances on the page, and to subtly advocate for things important to her with written flair. Her dream is to create projects for television and film that are pop culture-relevant yet timeless. When she’s not writing, Joretta can be found exploring NYC to seek inspiration from all around, like the best creatives who came before her.
